Gilbert and Chandler Among Top U.S. Cities with Gender Pay Gaps

Decades of efforts toward achieving gender pay equality have not fully bridged the gap in the United States, and notably, Gilbert and Chandler are among the top 15 cities with the most significant disparities. Data from the Census Bureau reveals that women working full-time and year-round earn roughly 82% of what men in similar positions make. However, Arizona shows some progress compared to other states, ranking 47th for the largest gender pay gaps, with men earning a median income of $57,628 versus women's $50,126, creating a gap of $7,502, which is considerably lower than the national average gap of $11,069.

As Equal Pay Day approaches on March 12, a recent study by ChamberofCommerce.org highlights the gender pay gaps across 170 cities in the country, pointing out that the Metro Phoenix area, including Gilbert and Chandler, faces some of the widest earnings disparities, nearly double the national average.

Safety Assured at Riggs Elementary Following Social Media Scare

Gilbert police have concluded their investigation into a rumored threat on social media targeting Riggs Elementary School in Gilbert, finding no credible threat to the school or its students. Despite the rumors, authorities have assured the community that the school remains safe.

In related news, Jamie Lander, the principal of Riggs Elementary, has temporarily stepped away from her duties for reasons that have not been made public. The investigation into the social media threat brought to light connections to Lander's stepson, who has been linked to discussions of teen violence on various social media platforms, including an alleged threat posted on SnapChat.

Concerns among the Riggs Elementary community led to increased caution, with reports on TikTok indicating that several parents chose to keep their children home on Wednesday. Additionally, it was mentioned that Chandler Unified School District officials planned a compulsory meeting with teachers after school, though this post was later removed.

Brenda Carrasco, a spokesperson for the Gilbert police, confirmed their awareness of the situation and their collaborative investigation with Chandler Unified School District, emphasizing the absence of any actual threat to Riggs Elementary or its students. Despite attempts to reach Chandler USD for comments on the situation and the impact on school attendance, there has been no response.

Heritage District Celebrates Community Love with 'Love Letters' Installation

Throughout February, the Heritage District becomes a canvas for public expression with the "Love Letters" art installation. This innovative community project allows both residents and visitors to pen their thoughts about the district on wooden hearts, which are then displayed on the entry walls of Gilbert's Park & Ride lot at 222 N. Ash Street. Positioned at the corner of Page Avenue and Ash Street, this self-guided art endeavor aims to capture the community's fondness for their downtown area.

The installation, available from February 1st to 27th, encourages the community to share what they cherish most about the downtown area, from favorite activities and businesses to memorable experiences. After the display period ends, town officials will archive these heartfelt messages, incorporating them into the broader public engagement initiatives for the Heritage District Redevelopment Plan set for 2028.

Additionally, Gilbert Public Schools continues its tradition of spreading goodwill with the annual Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th. The Gilbert Elementary Kindness & Service Club will adorn the district with kindness posters, enhancing the streets of Gilbert Road, the parking structures, and parts of Veterans and Page Parks with positive messages. These posters, intended to uplift and inspire, will grace the district until February 23rd.

For further details on these and other Heritage District happenings, interested individuals are encouraged to explore online resources.
